If visions, powerful women and the odd dragon sounds like your thing, you’ve come to the right place. All this and more can be found in the stories of the lives of medieval female saints and holy women, who often defied convention and forged their own unique place in medieval society.

On this blog I will feature different medieval holy woman (or female saint popular in the period) each fortnight. I will tell their story, explore their impact and include any contemporary works of art where they survive. My hope is that the stories of these lesser known women will entertain and inspire.

About me

My name is Ellie and I studied for a Masters in Medieval Studies where my love for medieval holy women developed. I want to share their stories with a wider audience and in a more accessible way than the academic setting in which they are often confined. At the moment my research interests mean this blog will largely be restricted to Christian women from the medieval west, but I am hoping to expand this as time goes on. If you have knowledge about holy women of the same period from other places and cultures, please do get in touch, I would love to share their stories too.
